JEAN SIGNS WRITTEN DECLARATION ON THE RIGHT TO WEAR THE HIJAB
Jean Lambert, London's Green MEP, has signed a written declaration calling for the preservation of the right for Muslim women across Europe to wear the Hijab. The move is in response to the growing number of countries that have banned or are considering banning the wearing of the Hijab Islamic headscarf. The cross-party group of MEPs signed the declaration which also calls for the wider respect for religious rights and freedoms extending to the Jewish scull cap, Sikh turban and Christian cross. The MEPs who were the initial signatories of the declaration are: Alain Liptiez (Greens/EFA - FR), Caroline Lucas (Greens/EFA - UK), Sarah Ludford (ALDE - UK), Claude Moraes (PES - UK) and Philip Bushill-Matthews (EPP-ED - UK).
