SEMINAR BRINGS TOGETHER ENERGY'S LEADING LIGHTS
MEPS AND ENERGY EXPERTS SAY: ANOTHER CITY IS POSSIBLE!
Event: Euro-MPs host seminar: 'The Economics of Energy'
Place: European Parliament UK Office, 2 Queen Anne's Gate, London SW1
Time: Monday, October 11th, 2pm
NEWLY-elected Euro-MPs from across the continent will join some of the EU's leading energy experts at a seminar on the economics of the energy at the start of a week of activities to mark the European Social Forum, which is being held in London and is expected to be the UK's largest-ever political gathering. The seminar, which will be chaired by London Green Party Euro-MP Jean Lambert will bring together for the first time leading lights from the energy sectors of Luxembourg, Spain, Germany and the UK.
Mrs Lambert, vice-president of the Green-EFA group in the European Parliament and a member of the parliament's Employment and Social Affairs Committee, said: "This seminar will examine the looming threat of a new programme of nuclear power stations being proposed as a spurious solution to climate change - and the opportunities and hazards facing renewable energy generation under current market conditions"
The seminar will hear Luxembourg MEP Claude Turmes reveal how the French energy sector has been able to dominate foreign markets - and sell electricity to Londoners.Newly-elected Spanish Euro-MP David Hammerstein Mintz will discuss the growth of renewable energy generation in Spain, German government advisor Kai Schlegemilch will explore ways the German government has 'taken on nuclear' with a combination of energy savings, improved efficiency and renewable generation, and Director of Sustainable Energy Action Chris Dunham will discuss the renewable energy sector here in the UK. The seminar is the first in a series of events under the banner 'Another City IS Possible!' sponsored by the Green-EFA group in the European Parliament to mark the European Social Forum coming to London.
