08/12/2007  Global Day of Action on Climate Change

Saturday 8 December is the global day of action on climate change. All around the world, people will come together to demand that politicians need to take much greater action to deal with climate change. The day coincides with the United Nations Climate Talks in Bali, Indonesia.

Comment from Jean Lambert MEP:

"Climate change is not simply an environmental issue. As well as causing rising sea levels, it also causes drought and the associated dwindling of fresh water and land resources. These processes will contribute to future conflict and human displacement on a massive scale. This has already begun, with such pressures partly causing the humanitarian catastrophe in Darfur. Development agencies are acknowledging that climate change is undermining the Millenium Development Goals, which aim for major global progress on poverty reduction. Climate change will affect us in the UK and the western world, but it will affect poorer countries even more severely.

"Far reaching action to establish sustainability and emissions reductions across the world are essential for peace, development and global justice - and all of us have a role to play in making this happen. So, please join the demonstrations and events. In London this will be a march and rally assembling on Millbank at 12 noon. If you care about climate change, don't leave it to others - please join in, take action and demand change."
