PUBLIC MEETING: Tackling climate change at a time of economic downturn
Tackling climate change at a time of economic downturn: Local, national and international action
Are you concerned about climate change? Would you like to know what action you can take? Are there ways to address both our environmental and economic problems together?
A public meeting to look at the ways to tackle climate change during the economic recession is taking place in Newington Green on Thursday 5th March from 7.30-9.30pm. The free event has been organised by Hackney Green Party, with speakers including Jean Lambert, the Green Party MEP for London, Mischa Borris, Green Councillor for Hackney and Phil Thornhill from the Campaign Against Climate Change.
Jean Lambert MEP, who has helped secure international laws on climate protection and promoted free home insulation for Londoners to save energy and reduce fuel bills, said:
"Climate change is a major challenge of our time. We need to make real and rapid reductions in greenhouse gas emissions now to avoid climatic disaster. The urgency of this situation means we need action at all levels to achieve the fastest possible results".
Green Cllr Mischa Borris, Clissold ward, added:
"Hackney Council has a major responsibility and it must improve its record on tackling climate change, with new far-reaching and concrete initiatives. Hackney residents also have a role to play, and we will be exploring what people can do in the meeting."
Hackney Green Party invites all Hackney residents to come along to listen to the speakers and contribute to the debate. This is a meeting about action and there will be something for all to learn. Entrance is free.
The meeting will be held at the Unitarian Church, 39a Newington Green, N16 9PR. To reserve your space email contactus@hackney.greenparty.org.uk For more information see http://www.hackney.greenparty.org.uk/
